Two NYPD Officers Mourned; First Philadelphia Female Firefighter To Die In The Line Of Duty Laid To Rest

NYPD Officers Mourned

NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were mourned this week after being ambushed while sitting in their cruiser. The officers never even had a chance to pull out their weapons to defend themselves or return fire. Most likely, they never saw their killer.

Officer Liu, 32, was a seven year veteran of the NYPD. He was married just two months ago.

Officer Ramos, 40, was a two year veteran. Prior to joining the NYPD, he worked as a school security officer. He was married with two sons.

Police Officer Fatalities To Date

To date, there have been 113 line of duty deaths up 11% from last year. Of those, 46 were gun-fire deaths up 59% from last year.
