WWII Veteran Dies After Casting His Last Vote

Most Americans never heard of Frank Tanabe. They should. He was a great American.

Tanabe was a WWII veteran who served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a Japanese-American. He was interned at the beginning of the war but later volunteered to serve in military intelligence.  Tanabe spent the last days of his life in a hospice. He died this week at the home of his daughter in Honolulu. But before he died, he completed his last act of patriotism. He cast his last ballot. His final request was to be buried at the National Memorial Cemetary in Honolulu. Mr. Tanabe was 93 years old.

Tricare Prime To Be Cut In Five States

DOD reported that Tricare Prime will be cut in three states (Iowa, MN, and Oregon) and two cities (Reno, NV & Springfield, MO).

As of April 1, 2012, this directive will affect 30,000 Prime beneficiaries---retirees, active Guard, Reserves and family members. These beneficiaries will be switched to Tricare Standard.

This change will require those in Tricare Prime to travel longer distances to get that service or they will have to switch to Tricare Standard. Tricare Standard also has higher out-of-pocket costs.

U.S.-Israel Joint Military Drill

A joint exercise---Austere Challenge 2012--- between the U.S. and Israel was underway this week. Approximately 3500 U.S. troops are participating alongside Israeli troops. Both countries report they are practicing their ability to counter threats that face Israel.

"Make no mistake. The U.S. is 100% committed to the security of Israel," said U.S. Air Force Lt. General Craig Franklin.

The drill took place as rockets were fired from Gaza in Southern Israel.
