Army's Outreach To Hispanic Community





Soldiers of Hispanic heritage have a long history of serving in the U.S. armed forces going back to the Revolutionary War.

During Hispanic American Heritage Month, the Army plans on many activities aimed at outreach to the Hispanic community. Currently, Hispanics comprise 12% of the Army compared to 17% of the total U.S. population.


"Murph: The Protector" Opening Oct. 6, 2012



"Murph: The Protector," a full-length documentary about Lt. Michael Murphy, will be opening on Oct. 6, 2012 in New York City. The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College will host the film's premier.

Lt. Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Afghanistan in 2005. He was also the first member of the U.S. Navy to be awarded the honor since the Vietnam War.



On May 7, 2011, on what would have been Lt. Murphy's 35th birthday, The USS Michael Murphy was officially christened by his mother, Maureen Murphy.


National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend


On Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, fallen firefighters will be honored at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.  This will be the 31st National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Every year, the Foundation honors those firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.
